Venice Symphony Names Doug Kerr Director of Development
Former Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County Development Director
Will Oversee Symphony Development
The Venice Symphony, a highly regarded arts organization in south Sarasota County since its founding 37 years ago, has named Doug Kerr as its new Director of Development. Mr. Kerr, who has been closely involved in the area in helping develop various Arts and Human Services projects, will plan and manage fund drives, fund-raising events, grants, and corporate contributions. A grant from The Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Inc. provided by the Boost Initiative Fund and an Operating Grant from the Venice Endowment Fund of Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice have partially funded this Development position.
As Director of Development for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County, Doug was part of the leadership team which resulted in Venice completing its 2 Phase project of the new Robert and Joan Lee Boys & Girls Club in Venice,
established in 2000. Prior to the Boys & Girls Clubs, he was Director of Development for the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art Foundation in the 1980's and 1990's during its major expansion era. Doug and his wife GeeDee have lived in Sarasota County since 1982 and raised their two daughters here.
Jack Starks, President of the Board of Directors, says, "Doug will help us accomplish our mission which is to engage our community in enriching the quality of life through live musical performances and music education." Jean Peters, Executive Director, said, "Doug comes to us with talents and contacts that will enhance all our activities."
