Symphony in The Schools takes place in the spring of each year. Musicians demonstrate instruments in the classrooms to all third grade students in the south Sarasota County area. Then the students are invited to a full symphonic concert. 1500 students attend three concerts at North Port Performing Arts Center. There is no cost to students or schools. All expenses are covered by gifts and grants from the community and Venice Symphony.
Symphony in the Schools is coordinated by Susan Rice, a long-time violinist with Venice Symphony. Susan attended Indiana University School of Music and The Boston Conservatory of Music.
