Venice, FL – October 6, 2020 – The Venice Symphony announces that violinist Ross Monroe Winter has joined the orchestra as Associate Concertmaster.
Dr. Ross Monroe Winter’s career spans four continents and multiple genres as soloist; chamber, orchestral, opera, and ballet musician and educator. Winter has performed with orchestras in the U.S., Brazil, and China. He has collaborated with world-class musicians and ensembles and premiered several new works. Currently he is a member of the Richmond Symphony, the IRIS Orchestra and principal second violin of the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra. He is a former core member of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic and a regular substitute with many renowned orchestras. He spent two seasons as the interim associate concertmaster of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, is the violinist of the Orlando Piano Trio, a member of the Wintergreen Chamber Players and a founding member of the Atlantic Chamber Ensemble.
“Ross brings a wealth of orchestra and chamber music experience with him to the Venice Symphony,” said Troy Quinn, Music Director/Conductor of The Venice Symphony. “He is a fine musician and will enhance our orchestra with his musicianship and caliber of violin playing.”
Dr. Winter is a violin professor at the University of Central Florida’s School of Performing Arts and teaches violin and chamber music at the Wintergreen Music Festival & Academy where he has also served as Academy Director. He is on the violin and chamber music faculty at The Orchestra Project and founded and former Artistic Director of the Midwest Violin Caucus. He has served on the string faculties of the University of Northern Iowa, Virginia Commonwealth University, and others and conducted masterclasses all over the U.S. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music from the SUNY Purchase College-Conservatory of Music. Winter completed his doctoral studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington.

Winter will make his debut with The Venice Symphony on a series of virtual concerts, premiering in November, led by Quinn and featuring Concertmaster Marcus Ratzenboeck and members of the orchestra. Winter is scheduled to make his live performance debut with the Symphony on May 1-2, 2021 at “Songs From the Stage and Screen with Linda Eder” at the Venice Performing Arts Center.
Winter has worked extensively in film and television. He tutored Oscar-nominee Robert Downey, Jr. for the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, and appeared in the film. He was featured performer in Sex and the City 2, HBO’s Mildred Pierce, the BET Honors with Aretha Franklin, and the film Lincoln. For more information and a full biography, visit rmwstudio.com.
